A jury led by Garrick Ohlsson selected 11 pianists to compete in the final stage of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. Poland’s Piotr Alexewicz carries the nation’s hopes as the sole local finalist.
The global classical music community now knows the names of the final performers, with anticipation building across Warsaw. Since its inauguration in 1927, the Chopin Competition has become one of the most renowned and historic contests in the world, celebrating the timeless genius of Fryderyk Chopin through performances dedicated exclusively to his compositions.
International Line-Up Promises World-Class Performances
The finalists joining Alexewicz include Kevin Chen (Canada), David Khrikuli (Georgia), Shiori Kuwahara (Japan), Tianyou Li (China), Eric Lu (United States), Tianyao Lyu (China), Vincent Ong (Malaysia), Miyu Shindo (Japan), Zitong Wang (China), and William Yang (United States).
Each competitor will perform Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op. 61, followed by one of two piano concertos — E minor, Op. 11, or F minor, Op. 21. They will play alongside the National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Andrzej Boreyka.
The final auditions will run from October 18 to 20, with performances beginning at 6 p.m. each evening inside Warsaw’s concert halls.
Prestigious Title and Prize Await the Next Master Pianist
The winner will earn €60,000 and a gold medal, joining a legacy of artists whose careers were defined by this competition.
