Same-sex sexual behaviour among non-human primates may help reinforce social bonds and maintain group stability under environmental and social stress, researchers say. A study published in Nature Ecology & Evolution analysed reports across 59 primate species, including chimpanzees, Barbary macaques and mountain gorillas, finding the behaviour widespread among major groups. Scientists from Imperial College London suggest this either points to a deep evolutionary origin or repeated independent evolution. The behaviour was more common in species living in harsher, drier environments with scarce resources and higher predation risk. It was also associated with longer lifespans, pronounced size differences between sexes, and…
West Ham United edged past Queens Park Rangers after extra time to reach the FA Cup fourth round, easing pressure on Nuno Espírito Santo. The match, which ended 2-1, underlined West Ham’s struggles as a Premier League side taken deep by Championship opposition. The decisive moment came when January signing Taty Castellanos headed home the winner, offering hope that West Ham may finally have solved a long-running striker problem. Crysencio Summerville impressed, scoring once and providing the assist for Castellanos. QPR forced extra time through Richard Kone after earlier dominating spells, earning praise from their manager Julien Stéphan. Despite the…
The U.S. government has approved a clean extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits, making health coverage more affordable for millions of Americans. The extension continues the enhanced benefits introduced under recent federal measures. Experts note that this action ensures continuity of coverage and prevents potential gaps in access to care. The ACA premium tax credit extension applies to plans offered through federal and state marketplaces. It supports a wide range of…
Chelsea began the Liam Rosenior era with a comfortable 5-1 FA Cup win over Charlton Athletic, easing into the fourth round with a clinical display from a rotated side. Despite the convincing result, discontent among Chelsea supporters dominated the night, with chants aimed at the club’s owners continuing throughout the match. Rosenior, appointed after the departure of Enzo Maresca, oversaw a controlled performance but could not escape the broader tensions surrounding ownership under Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly. Goals from Jorrel Hato, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Pedro Neto and a late penalty by Enzo Fernández sealed the win, while Charlton…
Bukayo Saka has agreed a new five-year contract with Arsenal that will make him one of the club’s highest-paid players. The deal, expected to run until 2031, will significantly increase Saka’s salary to around £300,000 a week, reflecting his status as a cornerstone of the team. Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta prioritised securing the Hale End graduate after extending contracts for several key players last year. Saka, who joined Arsenal aged seven, has been in strong form as the club opened a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League. Manager Mikel Arteta previously expressed confidence that the England…
People who stop using weight-loss injections regain the weight they lost in under two years, according to a major new analysis. The study, led by researchers at the University of Oxford and published in the BMJ, reviewed 37 studies involving more than 9,000 participants using GLP-1 weight-loss drugs. On average, people regained weight at a rate of 0.4kg per month after stopping treatment, returning to their original weight within about 1.7 years. This rebound was almost four times faster than in people who lost weight through behavioural programmes such as diet and exercise. Researchers also found that improvements in blood…
Las Vegas continues to face challenges as passenger traffic declines, affecting the city’s tourism and hospitality industry. Recent data shows fewer travelers arriving at McCarran International Airport, signaling slower activity for casinos, hotels, and entertainment venues. Tourism officials say the drop is partly due to economic pressures and changes in travel patterns. Rising costs, shifts in consumer behavior, and competition from other destinations have contributed to reduced visitor numbers. Airlines serving Las Vegas report lower bookings and decreased load factors on flights. The slowdown is particularly noticeable during weekdays and off-peak seasons. While weekend arrivals remain strong, overall traffic has…

The inclusion of tribal recognition and rights in the draft 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) shows how Congress can use major legislation to address long-standing social and economic justice issues. The measure includes provisions granting federal recognition to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and allows the Secretary of the Interior to place tribal land in trust. Federal recognition would formally acknowledge the Lumbee Tribe as a sovereign nation. This status unlocks access to federal funding, healthcare, education programs, and economic development opportunities. Tribal leaders say recognition is a long-awaited milestone after decades of advocacy. The land-trust provision allows…
